Feeling Inspired When Circumstances Aren’t Inspiring

on

The world is a mess right now — and that’s not news to anyone. To every person reading this, I hope you and your families are staying safe, healthy and sane. I hope you still fell joy and still believe that there is much more color in the world than darkness, even when it might not feel as though there is.

I just wanted to pop in and say hello. 🙂 It’s been a while. The circumstances aren’t the best, but hello.

I’ve had writing piling up for over 6 weeks that I’ve wanted to share, but it seems weird to work on something as silly as a blog when the world seems to be crumbling around us. Vision boards for 2020, recaps of my trip to Bali and lessons I’ve learned at work haven’t seemed super appropriate during a global pandemic and national unrest.

Quarantine has been a great time for self-reflection and hobbies- developing new ones and revisiting old. I’ve had this going for 5 years now and while I often neglect it, draft posts that I never publish and even forget about this whole domain for months on end, the source of joy it brings whenever I turn back to it remains constant. So naturally, this was the first hobby I wanted to turn to in a time of uncertainty and lack of structure.

I’ve written a decent amount during quarantine, but when it came to posting light-hearted content grounded in optimism amidst a heavy hearted world, it seemed insensitive and foolish and not particularly inspiring.

But I guess I’ve realized that less-than-inspiring circumstances are usually the times when optimism and positivity are needed most. And this platform has been a source of that for me (and apparently others) so why not continue to write and try to impact my corner of the world.

All that is to say that I will be writing more and please understand I’m coming from a place of both privilege and gratitude and not blindness towards pain, sickness, loneliness and isolation much of the world is feeling right now.
